Bako National Park

12 Nov 2009

Chris: Hey Pauline, i am coming to Borneo!
Me: That's great. I'll pick you up!

Chris, my supervisor in Perth. He will be spending his year end holiday here in Borneo. So i arranged his accommodation and activities for his 9 days here. One of the programme was 5D4N visit to Bako National Park. I invited Nikson and Mei too...

Pic (left to right): Chris, me, Mei and Nikson

We registered ourselves at the counter and bought the boat tickets. As students, we were entitled a discount on our entrance fees. Yeah~

Here, we excitedly boarded on the boat. Didn't realize in the first place that it was end of the year, so the boat ride out to the sea was a horrible experience. The wave was fierce and kept hitting on our boat which at some point my mind kept preparing for the worst case scenario because we were not provided with life jackets!! The guys were pretty steady especially Chris. Nik did showed his concern too but cool enough. Mei and i screamed all the way......till we reached. Phew!

Felt just SO LUCKY to be on the ground again, ALIVE. The boat could not reach the jetty as the water level was very low so we hooped out of the boat, into the water to our knees level, grabbed our baggage and walk all the way to the land. We felt like the Survivors in the movie (wing blowing our hair).

Look at the black and red big square trolley luggage, black was Chris's and red was Mei's. We were into the jungle on an island and we brought trolley luggage?! Laugh not...we have got loads of important stuffs in there which included clothes, many many repellents, bite cream, detergent, and most important, our 6 breakfast for the next 5 days!

This is where we got ourselves registered. Got the key and checked into our room. We had a room with 4 beds. We were warned to keep our window and door closed as the macaque is everywhere and they can open doors and windows.

Once we got ourselves ready and put on many layers of insect repellent, we were ready to do our first trek..Telok Paku.

This was a 2 hours trek. Just nice to warm up our muscle for the next few days.

I love this rock!

The rock look so much like an oyster. Thanks to Chris who pulled me up.

After the trek, we got back and supposed rest early. Somehow we got very excited and decided to do put on one tattoo on each of us. I chose this which means Star.

Presenting to you our daily breakfast. Milk, raisin, muesli, chocolate bars, walnuts and almonds. Healthy eh...

This was our Day 2 trail. Telok Kecil. This is a long trail of about 5 hours return trip.

See the crystal clear water down there? There was where we got into the embrace of the nature. Very unfortunately, my camera got "drowned"!! I put it at one side before i went into the water but when i got up, all my things were floating and i could not find my camera. Nikson fished it from the water. sob..sob...i hate the sea!!

My camera gone...life still goes on. Nikson got a shot of me when i was just so down.

But when we back to town in Kuching, Chris bought me a NEW camera!! :D

Mei was not with us in this trip cause she has got asthma due to the tiring trail we went on the first day. So, Chris insisted she rest in the room. Anyhow, she was enjoying watching the wild boar and macaque in the canteen!

On that night, despite our tiredness, we joined a group of people to a night trek. It was very dark, many weird noises. So damn creepy. Nikson managed to catch some nice insect shots.

Well, after for just staying there for 3 days, we gave up. Too many love bites from the giant mosquitoes. Mei and i could no longer take it so we quit and went back Kuching on the 4th day.
